I discovered the concept of the Johari Window on YouTube. I found it interesting and wanted to dig deeper and learn more. Surprisingly, there is little information about it beyond coaching circles. I thought it would be good to go to the source - the book “Of Human Interaction” written in 1969.
That's probably the hardest book to find. That explains why there are almost no reviews for it. I ended up borrowing the book from an online library.
The book has very interesting insights, and as it often happens with popular knowledge, the content differs from the original source. That was the case with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and it is the case here. The The Johari Window model applies to interaction between two people and should be seen in that context. It could also be groups of people, while my initial exposure was presented as a generic self-awareness.
The good insights in the book mixed with very stretched arguments that don't make sense to me. That's probably why the book stayed at an academic level and never got into the masses. Overall, it’s a good foundation, but the author failed to build more on top. I still didn't satisfy my curiosity fully and am still looking for more insights.
